The Consumer Protection Cooperation (CPC) Network has adopted a Common Understanding to deal with the old stock of products placed on the market before the date of application of the Empowering Consumers for the Green Transition (ECGT) Directive.
Toy Industries of Europe, alongside 17 other associations, welcomes the constructive cooperation with the European Commission, who facilitate the development of this much-needed document. We strongly agree with the CPC Network that disproportionate measures, such as forcing the destruction of products already placed on the market and their packaging, must be avoided. Doing so only creates unnecessary costs and, most of all, environmental harm.
While some concerns related to private enforcement remain, TIE calls on all stakeholders involved to respect this pragmatic approach to ensure a harmonised, fair application across all EU Member States, regardless of differing national enforcement frameworks.
