TIE Co-signs Joint Letter on the European Product Act Alongside 87 Industry and Civil Society Organisations

Together with 87 other industry, retail, environmental NGOs and consumer organisations, Toy Industries of Europe has co-signed a joint letter to the European Commission. We all ask for the same thing: the upcoming European Product Act must close the accountability gap in e-commerce.

Billions of low-value parcels enter the EU every year through online platforms. Many fail to meet EU rules on product safety, ecodesign, energy labelling, IPR and consumer protection. Too often, there is no economic operator established in the EU who can be held responsible.

  • 88 organisations are calling on policymakers to ensure that:
Every product on the EU market has a clearly indentified economic operator established in the EU/EEA.
  • Platforms facilitating sales by non-EU sellers ensure there is an EU operator that has verified compliance before listing, or become responsible themselves.
  • Platforms become the responsible economic operator whenever no other accountable actor in the EU can be identified or traced.

Time to level the playing field and protect European consumers and reputable businesses.
