TIE and other industry associations are asking the European Commission to swiftly conclude requests for justified partial derogations from Article 11 of the EU Batteries Regulation.
This article requires batteries to be removable and replaceable by end-users. However, in some instances, meeting this requirement could harm product design, safety, and innovation. In such cases, trained professionals should be allowed to handle battery replacement.
With the new rules taking effect at the start of 2027 and the outcome of the derogation process expected by the end of this year or early next year, we also call for a two-year delay in the application of Article 11.
