Position on Proposal on Digitalisation and Common Specifications

TIE supports the overall objective of the European Commission’s proposal for a Directive and Regulation on ‘Digitalisation and alignment of common specifications’, namely to simplify and modernise product rules.

However, we are concerned that the proposal may introduce new burdens and complexity for the toy sector. We therefore call for the following key changes:

  • Flexibility for providing digital contact details for toys and allow sufficient transition time, aligned with the new  Toy Safety Regulation.
  • Ensure rules on common specifications are aligned with other EU laws, notably the TSR
  • Allow digital battery labelling (e.g. QR codes) for batteries included in toys/products
