TIE joins call against text on EU harmonised waste sorting labels

TIE joins other +60 associations in a call against the provisional guidelines for EU harmonised waste sorting labels suggested by the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre (JRC).
Under the Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation (PPWR), from 12 August 2028, all packaging—excluding transport packaging and packaging of a deposit and return system – must carry harmonised labels indicating the material composition. Although the JRC is proposing 5 different sets of labels, it is also suggesting to prioritise full-colour labels accompanied by text over monochromatic and non-textual options.
The co-signatories warn that the proposed prioritisation may fragment the EU Single Market and hamper the environmental objectives of the PPWR. In mid-June, TIE defended the same position in the contribution to the dedicated public consultation.
