TIE joins coalition of associations calling for an EU approach to packaging waste labelling

TIE has joined a coalition of business associations calling for the Commission to guarantee a common EU approach to requirements for labelling and information on packaging. Increasingly, member states are putting in place different measures at national level. This situation is creating obstacles for the free movement of toys within the EU and are making sustainability measures less efficient and, in some cases, even counterproductive.

About the packaging waste labelling

A unified approach on packaging waste labelling would be coherent with EU’s efforts to encourage a better waste collection and the development of the circular economy. This would also represent a strengthening factor for the Internal Single Market. Having common standards would help companies that sell their products in several countries, by not needing to adapt their packaging in order to comply with different regulations, but it would also avoid creating confusion among customers.
